What is Dog Agility?

Dog agility was created over 25 years ago and provides a fun sport for both handlers and dogs alike.  The sport involves running your dog on set courses using jumps, see-saws, A frames, Long Jumps, Cat walks, tunnels, tyres and many other obstacles.

The dog must clear the jump without knocking off the pole.
'A Frame' the dog must make contact with the yellow section both up and down. The weaving poles are intended for the dog to move between the poles.

'See Saw' the dog must touch the yellow contact points.
Dog walk (usually taller than this but starter dog stay on a low height to start with.  Again the yellow contacts must be touched. Tunnels, there is also a different kind of tunnel which is made from cloth that the dog has to push its way through.

The dog must jump through the centre of the tyre.

We teach both yourself and your dog to do this and if you wish you can compete.  You may have seen dogs competing at Crufts, these are the top dogs in the country.  Competitions are split into levels of ability of both the dog and the handler so everyone has a chance of excelling in the sport.  There is no problem if you just want to do agility for fun,  your dog will love it.

All breeds can take part as there are 3 height levels we use for the jumps.

Why not get in contact and give it a try as long as your dog is over 1 year of age and has a good grounding in basic obedience.  All dogs need to be able to do at least a minute sit-stay, or down-stay; come when called and not run off.

If your dog can't do the above then the club offers a wide range of training sessions from complete beginners to advanced dogs and handlers in Obedience as well as Agility. Email for details
